The 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference has stressed people-centric governance while reviewing Pakistan’s security environment and counterterrorism efforts.
Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir chaired the conference at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The forum began by offering Fateha for the martyrs of the Armed Forces, law enforcement agencies and civil society. It also paid tribute to their sacrifices for the country.
Commanders Review Pakistan’s Security Situation
During the meeting, the forum examined the prevailing security environment and reaffirmed the need for a high level of operational readiness.
The commanders also reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to self-defence. They supported targeted action against terrorism originating from Afghanistan.
The forum said the Taliban leadership bears responsibility for the consequences of facilitating terrorism on behalf of India.
At the same time, commanders reviewed ongoing intelligence-based counterterrorism operations by law enforcement agencies. They appreciated the continued efforts against terrorist threats across the country.
However, the forum stressed that security operations must also receive support from broader measures. These measures include people-centric governance and stronger engagement with the public.
Focus on Governance and Counterterrorism
The commanders emphasised the need to strengthen governance at the grassroots level. They also called for greater strategic engagement with the public.
In addition, the forum highlighted the importance of dismantling the terror-crime nexus operating under the patronage of vested interests.
Police capacity building also featured among the measures discussed during the conference. These efforts were linked to the National Action Plan and Vision Azm-e-Istehkam.
Therefore, the forum placed both security operations and non-kinetic measures within its broader approach to internal stability.
Warning Over Agitation and May 9-Like Situation
Internal stability also remained a major focus during the conference. The forum stressed that attempts to create unrest would face a strong response.
The commanders resolved that any attempt to cause agitation or create a May 9-like situation would be dealt with through decisive force.
They also emphasised the rule of law, stating that action would be taken without hesitation or discrimination.
The warning covered attempts made on any pretext, according to the statement issued after the meeting.
Makkah Defence Agreement Also Discussed
The forum also welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
Commanders described the agreement as contributing to the countries’ longstanding strategic and collective defence ties.
Meanwhile, the forum strongly condemned Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia. It expressed solidarity with the Kingdom and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the security and sanctity of Haramain Sharifain.
