Pakistan has strongly condemned the recent drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The government warned that such attacks threaten regional peace and could further increase instability across the Middle East.
According to Saudi authorities, the Kingdom’s air defence systems intercepted and destroyed several drones on Monday. The drones reportedly targeted petroleum facilities in the Eastern Region and Riyadh. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence stated that Iran-backed militias operating in Iraq launched the attacks.
A ministry spokesperson said Saudi Arabia has the right to defend its territory and critical infrastructure. The official also stated that the Kingdom reserves the right to respond at a suitable time and place.
Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Saudi Arabia
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan strongly condemned the drone attacks against Saudi Arabia. The statement described the incidents as a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
“Such provocative attacks pose a grave threat to peace and stability across the entire region,” the Foreign Office said. It further added, “Pakistan stands in solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reaffirms its strong and unwavering support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peace and prosperity.”
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia also maintain close strategic ties through the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA). The agreement considers an armed attack against one country as an attack against both, strengthening their long-standing security partnership.
Pakistan Continues Diplomatic Efforts for Regional Stability
Earlier, Pakistan also condemned Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he, Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and the Pakistani nation stood “firmly and resolutely with the Saudi leadership and the brotherly people of the Kingdom at this critical time.”
Meanwhile, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi confirmed that Pakistani officials discussed the Houthi attacks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni during his recent visit to Islamabad.
The Foreign Office reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts that promote lasting peace in the region. It stated, “Pakistan has taken, and will continue to take, all possible steps to support efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace, security and stability in the region.”
