Pakistan and Croatia have initiated high-level talks to establish a comprehensive maritime and trade partnership. Consequently, the two nations are exploring strategic collaboration between their commercial ports. The Foreign Office announced the development on Thursday.
The major diplomatic breakthrough occurred during a pivotal meeting in Islamabad. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar hosted Croatiaโs Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Gordan Grliฤ Radman. Notably, this marks the first-ever official visit by a Croatian foreign minister to Pakistan. Therefore, both nations view the interaction as a historic milestone to reset and expand their bilateral relationship.
Expanding the Pakistan-EU Economic Framework
During their delegation-level talks, Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized that the European Union remains one of Pakistanโs most vital global trading partners. He explicitly described Croatia as a highly influential member of the economic bloc.
Furthermore, the discussions aimed to significantly broaden the scope of bilateral cooperation. The ministers detailed plans to enhance engagement across several key sectors. These areas include trade, foreign direct investment, agriculture, and defense. Additionally, they prioritized labor mobility, simplified visa facilitation, higher education, and information technology.
To maintain this momentum, both sides formally agreed to host a round of bilateral political consultations. These sessions will take place later this year or in early 2027.
Promoting Regional Peace and Global Solidarity
Beyond economic integration, the two leaders exchanged views on pressing regional and international security issues. Minister Radman praised Pakistanโs ongoing diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue and de-escalation in the Middle East.
Additionally, the Croatian minister highlighted the severe challenges posed by current conflicts in Ukraine and the wider Mediterranean. He noted that countries must actively uphold international law and respect humanitarian principles.
Meanwhile, Minister Dar recalled the close diplomatic contact maintained with EU leadership during past regional crises. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to building a durable, long-term partnership with Croatia within the broader EU framework.
