ISLAMABAD: More than 1 million people have registered for the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme, while over 800,000 subsidy tokens have been generated nationwide.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication said a 24-hour control room is monitoring the scheme across the country. It is tracking registrations, token generation and token redemption in real time to oversee implementation and identify issues.
Punjab and Islamabad have recorded the highest number of fuel subsidy token redemptions so far, according to the ministry. The scheme covers owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc across Pakistan. It also includes eligible vehicle owners in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan under the government’s fuel assistance programme.
Meanwhile, the government has removed charges for registration messages sent to short code 9771.
Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said telecom operators had been instructed to waive the Rs1.40 fee previously charged for these messages.
The decision aims to make registration easier for eligible citizens while removing an additional cost from the application process.
Authorities are continuing to monitor registrations and subsidy redemptions through the dedicated control room as participation increases nationwide.
The monitoring system will also help officials track the distribution process and maintain oversight of the relief programme.
