Intelligence Operation Launched in Basima District
Security forces killed 14 militants during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistanโs Basima district, the Inter-Services Public Relations said on Tuesday.
According to the militaryโs media wing, the operation was carried out in the Naal area of Basima district on June 8, 2026. It was launched after security forces received information about the presence of militants allegedly backed by India.
The ISPR said the militants were planning attacks on a nearby police station and banks in the area. After receiving the intelligence report, security forces moved quickly to prevent the planned violence.
During the operation, the movement of the militants was tracked and stopped. An intense exchange of fire followed between security forces and the armed group.
The ISPR said 14 militants were killed during the operation, while several others were injured.
Vehicles and Explosive Devices Destroyed
The military said four vehicles being used by the militants were also destroyed during the operation.
Improvised explosive devices were recovered and destroyed on the spot, according to the statement. The action helped prevent possible attacks on public buildings and security targets in the area.
During the gun battle, Lance Havildar Muhammad Abbas was martyred after fighting bravely, the ISPR said.
The military said sanitisation operations were continuing in the area to clear any remaining militants and ensure public safety.
Security forces are also checking nearby locations to confirm that no armed elements remain in the district.
The operation highlights the continuing security challenges in Balochistan, where militants have targeted police, security personnel and public infrastructure in recent years.
Counterterrorism Operations to Continue
The ISPR said counterterrorism operations under the national security framework would continue at full pace. It added that the objective was to eliminate foreign-sponsored and foreign-supported terrorism from the country.
Pakistan has seen a rise in terrorist activity, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since 2021.
Security officials have repeatedly expressed concern over cross-border militant networks and their role in attacks inside Pakistan.
The latest operation in Basima district comes amid ongoing efforts to improve security in sensitive regions and protect civilians from militant violence.
Pakistan has also faced tensions along its western border. Officials have linked several recent attacks to militant groups operating from across the border.
Despite talks and diplomatic engagement, Pakistan says action against such groups remains insufficient.
The killing of 14 militants in Balochistan is being viewed as a major security action. However, the martyrdom of Lance Havildar Muhammad Abbas shows the continued human cost faced by security forces during counterterrorism operations.
Authorities say operations will continue until militant networks are dismantled and peace is restored in affected areas.
