A Karachi court has given a newly appointed investigation officer another 10 days to complete the murder investigation of businessman Mir Raza Ali.
The judicial magistrate (East) granted the extension on Tuesday after hearing an application from DSP Fareed Ahmed Khan, who recently joined the investigation as a co-opted officer.
Court Grants Additional Time
DSP Fareed Ahmed Khan had requested 14 additional days to complete the investigation. He told the court that he had received a case file containing more than 1,100 pages.
He also informed the magistrate that a joint investigation team (JIT) had been formed to examine the case thoroughly. After hearing his request, the court allowed an additional 10 days.
The development follows a show-cause notice issued a day earlier to JIT head DIG Irfan Baloch. The court sought an explanation over the police failure to submit the final charge sheet.
Mir Raza Found Dead in Karachi
Mir Raza Ali, a 25-year-old businessman, went missing on July 28 after leaving his home in Karachi’s PECHS area.
The following day, authorities found his body in bushes in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. He had sustained a gunshot wound that passed through his body.
The Sindh Home Department later established a JIT led by DIG Irfan Baloch. The team was tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and possible negligence in the case.
Previous Probes Failed to Identify Culprit
The investigation has faced delays despite the formation of multiple high-level teams. Two earlier teams failed to identify the culprit or establish how the victim’s body ended up at the location.
The latest court order gives the new investigation officer 10 more days to complete the probe. Authorities must now submit their findings as the case continues to face scrutiny.
