Israeli prime minister says security and regional peace will dominate discussions
JERUSALEM: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departed for Washington on Monday for high-level talks with US President Donald Trump, with Iran expected to be the primary focus of their discussions, according to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office.
Speaking before boarding the official aircraft, Netanyahu said the meeting would cover several strategic issues but stressed that Iran would remain the top priority.
“We will discuss all the issues on the agenda, first and foremost, Iran,” Netanyahu said. He added that Israel’s objectives include safeguarding national security while working to expand regional peace.
The Israeli leader said the visit comes at a critical time, requiring both determination and careful decision-making. He also stated that his mission is centred on ensuring the security, strength and future of Israel.
Eighth meeting since Trump’s second term
Netanyahu noted that the Washington visit will mark his eighth meeting with President Trump since the US leader began his second presidential term.
He described the frequency of the meetings as a sign of the close relationship between the two leaders, calling it both a privilege and a significant responsibility.
The discussions are expected to address broader regional developments alongside the situation involving Iran, although the Prime Minister’s Office did not release a detailed agenda before the visit.
Funeral attendance also planned
In addition to his meeting with President Trump, Netanyahu said he plans to attend the funeral of US Senator Lindsey Graham, who, according to the source material, died on July 12 following a brief illness.
