Terror threats: After USA, UK, Saudi Arabia & Australia also ask their citizens, staff to avoid visiting public places

ISLAMABAD: After the United States and the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and Australia have also advised their citizens and staff members not to visit public places in Islamabad due to possible terror attacks.

On Monday (Dec 26), Saudi Embassy in Islamabad issued an advisory for its citizens in Pakistan and asked them to ‘limit their movement’ in the wake of the adverse security situation.

Through its Twitter handle, Saudi Embassy in Islamabad said, “The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan would like to warn all citizens residing and visiting the Islamic Republic of Pakistan of the need to take caution and not to go out except for necessity, given that the authorities in the capital, Islamabad, have raised the security alert to the highest level.”

Meanwhile, Australian High Commission in Islamabad also asked their citizens and members of staff to avoid going to the Marriott Hotel as some unknown individuals are planning to attack it.

The Australian High Commission in Islamabad urged the Australian citizens to reconsider their need to visit the South Asian country.

“Avoid non-essential travel. Do your research and check that your insurer will cover you. If you do travel, take extra precautions to protect yourself from security and health risks,” the Australian advisory reads.

“Australian officials in Islamabad have been advised to increase vigilance and limit travel within the city. You should exercise heightened vigilance and monitor the media for latest updates,” it adds.

A couple of days ago, the United States and the United Kingdom asked their nationals and staff members not to visit Marriott Hotel as some individuals are planning to attack it.

Due to concerns about a “possible attack,” the US embassy in Islamabad on Sunday prohibited its staff from going to the city’s Marriott Hotel.

In a tweet, the embassy issued a security warning and said that the US government was “aware of information that unknown individuals are possibly plotting to attack Americans at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad sometime during the holidays”.
