SSGC’s Special Ramzan Promise – No Gas Load Shedding at Sehr and Iftar

Ramzan

KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced that there will be no gas load shedding during Sehr and Iftar times in Ramzan, ensuring uninterrupted gas supply during the holy month.

The schedule indicates that gas supply will be suspended from 9 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 3 am during Ramzan. This decision aims to facilitate the observance of religious practices, especially during the early morning and evening hours.

The announcement comes as Pakistanis prepare to observe the first day of the holy month of Ramzan on Wednesday, March 13.

The SSGC’s commitment to maintaining gas supply during crucial times reflects an effort to enhance the convenience of citizens during this significant period.

It is noteworthy that the SSGC acknowledges the challenges posed by the declining gas reserves in Pakistan, stating that reserves are decreasing by 8 to 10 percent annually.

The company emphasizes the need to transition from local gas to Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) to address this issue.

In a broader context, the SSGC is actively exploring alternative sources of gas, including biogas, nitrogen production, and gas production from coal.

These initiatives aim to meet the country’s growing gas needs and counter the decline in traditional natural gas reserves.

Additionally, recent decisions related to gas tariffs, such as the increase announced by the caretaker government in February, highlight the complexities associated with balancing economic considerations and meeting international obligations, particularly those linked to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

As the SSGC takes steps to navigate the evolving landscape of Pakistan’s energy sector, the assurance of uninterrupted gas supply during Sehr and Iftar underscores the company’s commitment to facilitating religious practices and addressing the nation’s energy challenges during the holy month of Ramzan.
