Second spell of nation-wide rains starting from today

ISLAMABAD: Weather experts are predicting the beginning of second spell of rains, starting from today (March 21). During the second spell, experts have anticipated heavy and above-normal rains in Pakistan in March 2023.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a new rain system entered Pakistan today.

This strong westerly wave will grip most parts of the country till Wednesday.

Karachi, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Mithi, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas and Dadu are expected to experience dust-storm, thunderstorm and rains from March 21 to 23.

Meanwhile, widespread rain-wind and thunderstormsS are expected in Balochistan including Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Khuzdar, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti, Barkhan, Harnai, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Saifullah, Qillah Abdullah, Dalbandin, Nokkundi, Panjgur, Kalat, Gwadar, Lasbella and Makran coast from tomorrow evening to March 24.

Earlier, with the arrival of the WJO Wave in the Indian Ocean and an unprecedented heat in the sub-continent, widespread and above-normal rains started after mid-March.

In other words, the holy month will begin with moderate to heavy rain. The first day of Ramazan is expected on March 23, depending on moon-sighting.

Meanwhile, many parts of Pakistan are facing a shortage of groundwater. Upcoming rains are expected to increase ground-water surface. The residents of Islamabad are also experiencing this problem since Feb 2023.

The holy month of fasting is starting from March 23 and the ongoing light to moderate rains will make the weather pleasant and ideal for fasting.
