ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during his address at the “One Water Summit” in Riyadh on Tuesday, emphasized the critical need for global collaboration to address water-related challenges.

He highlighted that international cooperation is essential for ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water resources worldwide.

PM Shehbaz stressed the importance of a collective effort to confront the global water crisis, urging the international community to exchange knowledge and expertise to effectively manage water issues.

In his speech, the Prime Minister pointed out that adequate funding for climate-resilient infrastructure is crucial to bridge the financing gap faced by countries vulnerable to climate change.

He also called for a focus on establishing frameworks for transparency, data sharing, and regional cooperation to prevent conflicts and promote the sharing of water resources.

The Premier further emphasized the need for investments in skill development, research, and strengthening institutions to address water-related challenges both at the national and global levels.

PM Shehbaz concluded his remarks by stressing that overcoming the water crisis requires strong political will and global leadership.

He reiterated that these efforts must be aligned with sustainable solutions to secure water resources for future generations.

The Prime Minister is currently in Riyadh for a two-day official visit to attend the water summit. Upon his arrival at Riyadh’s Royal Airport Terminal, he was warmly welcomed by Prince Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman bin Abdulaziz, the deputy governor of Riyadh, alongside Pakistan’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia and other senior officials.

In a message shared on his official X handle, PM Shehbaz expressed his commitment to working with global leaders, including Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, to address water security challenges, combat desertification, and advocate for water sustainability on local, regional, and global levels.

Additionally, on the sidelines of the summit, PM Shehbaz held a productive meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

The two leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in agriculture, livestock, information technology, skills development, and clean drinking water.

They also agreed on the importance of strengthening economic and trade relations between Pakistan and France, particularly in the areas of climate adaptation and renewable energy.

PM Shehbaz expressed appreciation for France’s support during the 2022 floods in Pakistan and congratulated President Macron on the successful hosting of the water summit.
