LAHORE: In a historic development for Pakistan, religious leaders from the Muslim and Christian communities and representatives of four sacred texts united in a global appeal for the respect of all holy books.
Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council and President of the International Interfaith Harmony Council, led a gathering and held a press conference in Lahore at Jamia Manzoorul Islamia.
Although,during the conference, he emphasizes that no individual, community, country, or organization should have the authority to disrespect any holy books or the Prophets and Messengers of Allah Almighty. He condemned the incident that took place in Sweden, considering it unacceptable. Ashrafi expressed gratitude towards those who prevented the burning of the Torah.
Additionally, the religious leaders called upon the European Union and the United Nations to promptly address the issue and enact legislation to uphold the sanctity of all heavenly religions on a global scale. They said that Islam and all other divine religions promote peace, security, moderation, and tolerance and that the teachings of any religion do not advocate violence or extremism. The leaders clarified that those who propagate violence and extremism do not represent any religion.
Although, they asserted that minorities in Pakistan have full rights. It is unacceptable for anyone to infringe upon their rights. They highlighted that the Constitution of Pakistan safeguards the rights of minorities. The leaders condemned the Israeli delegate’s statement against Pakistan in the United Nations Human Rights Council.
During the month of Muharramul Haram, the religious leaders pledged to ensure peace and order by adhering to the Paigham-e-Pakistan code of conduct, which urges individuals to remain committed to their respective religious sects and refrain from interfering in others.
However, the leaders commended the resolution presented by Pakistan and Muslim countries in the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden. They announced their commitment to advocate for this cause at all levels.
The religious leaders from all religions in Pakistan conveyed a message: of peace, love, tolerance, and moderation to the world. They emphasized that alongside the Torah, Zabur, Bible, and the Holy Quran, Muslim and Christian leaders have jointly conveyed the message of religious harmony and tolerance to the world.
