More Than 67,000 Pakistanis Miss Hajj Due to Private Scheme Issues

ISLAMABAD: Thousands of Pakistanis hoping to perform Hajj under the private scheme are facing disappointment, as only 23,620 of the 89,800 applicants will be able to undertake the pilgrimage this year. Over 67,000 hopefuls will miss out due to complications with the private quota.

Hajj flights are scheduled to begin on April 29, but most private tour operators failed to submit dues on time, causing delays in visa processing and other necessary arrangements.

Federal Minister Sardar Yousaf confirmed that only 10,000 pilgrims were granted special concessions by the Saudi government. He also stated that if further permissions are granted, Pakistan will request an extension from Saudi authorities for visa issuance and other formalities.

Despite an agreement between private Hajj operators, Saudi officials, and the Pakistan Hajj Mission finalized on December 10, the deadline for booking services in Saudi Arabia passed on February 14. Many names were removed from the final list due to unpaid dues.

In response to the situation, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has formed a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the reasons behind the underutilization of the private Hajj quota and hold responsible parties accountable.

The news has sparked anger and frustration among thousands of affected families, many of whom had spent their life savings to fulfill their Hajj dreams, only to see them dashed due to mismanagement and delays.
