Lahore Rape Allegation: 150 Students Arrested During Protests in Twin Cities

Maryam Nawaz has dismissed the alleged rape as fabricated news. In response to the reported sexual assault of a female student at a private college in Lahore, students in Rawalpindi have staged protests outside several campuses.

Demonstrators vandalized the Peshawar Road Campus by breaking windows and set fire to the Quaid Campus in Islamabad.

Rawalpindi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Hafiz Kamran Asghar stated that while they did not intend to arrest students, legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt public order under the guise of protests.

Last week, social media reports about the alleged incident sparked widespread attention, leading to the arrest of a security guard suspected of involvement.

In recent days, students have held protests outside various colleges in Lahore, culminating in clashes with security personnel and police on Monday, resulting in at least 28 injuries. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz condemned the allegations as “fabricated news,” accusing the PTI of spreading “fake reports” online.

The director of the private college, Agha Tahir, along with other officials, has labeled the claims as “baseless.”
