Memoranda of Understanding
ISLAMABAD: Iran and Pakistan have solidified their bilateral relations by signing eight memoranda of understanding across various sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi were present to witness the signing ceremony, indicating the significance of the agreements.
These MOUs cover a wide range of areas, including veterinary and animal health, judicial support in civil cases, security cooperation, and the establishment of a special economic zone in Gabad.
Additionally, agreements were reached for film exchanges and cooperation between Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Iran’s Organization of Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs.
Furthermore, cooperation between the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare of Iran was formalized, as well as between the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority and the National Standards Organization of Iran.
Notably, joint film production projects will be initiated, and delegations will be exchanged to enhance mutual understanding of each other’s film industries.
An MOU on mutual legal cooperation was also signed, reflecting the commitment of both nations to strengthen their legal frameworks.
Earlier discussions between Pakistan and Iran focused on cooperation in manpower, film, and cinema. Both countries have approved summaries to facilitate the exchange of skilled manpower and promote worker welfare initiatives. Plans for establishing a joint workers welfare fund are also under consideration.
President Raisi’s visit to Pakistan commenced with a warm reception at the Prime Minister House, where he was greeted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and introduced to federal ministers.
Symbolizing the growing ties between the two nations, a sapling was planted in the PM House lawns amidst the playing of the national anthems of Pakistan and Iran.
President Raisi’s visit marks a significant diplomatic engagement, being the first visit by a head of state to Pakistan since the formation of the new government, signifying the importance both nations place on strengthening their bilateral relationship.
