PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD: Four suspects linked to Peshawar’s major cash van heist have been arrested, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Masood Ahmed announced on Tuesday.
The robbery occurred on Monday, targeting a bulletproof van transporting Rs35 million to multiple districts. The bank later filed an FIR, and CCTV footage showed armed robbers on motorcycles intercepting the vehicle in Hashtnagri, Peshawar.
Van Driver’s Involvement Uncovered
During a press conference, SSP Ahmed revealed that the van driver played a central role in orchestrating the crime. Investigations found that he had been employed for six months without proper background checks and had previously been dismissed from multiple jobs. His direct involvement allowed the criminals to successfully carry out the heist.
Security Lapses and Swift Police Action
The robbers used a small transport van (“carry dabba”) and a motorcycle to execute the crime. Authorities also identified serious security lapses, including failure to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)—as the driver should not have opened the van’s door.
Despite these security failures, police acted swiftly, conducting multiple raids that led to the suspects’ arrests. Their criminal records are now being verified as investigations continue.
