ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a heatwave advisory for much of Pakistan, warning that intense heat is expected to persist from Tuesday (today) through Sunday, April 27.
According to the NDMA, hot and dry weather will dominate most regions, with Sindh and Balochistan facing above-normal temperatures throughout the week. The heatwave is also expected to affect large parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
However, there is a chance of scattered rain showers in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and some areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which could offer brief relief from the heat.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported Jacobabad as the hottest location in the country over the past 24 hours, recording a sweltering 43°C. Other cities with soaring temperatures included:
- Mithi, Bahawalnagar, Nawabshah – 42°C
- Karachi, Kasur, Lasbela – 41°C
- Lahore – 38°C
- Islamabad – 36°C
- Peshawar – 35°C
- Muzaffarabad – 33°C
- Quetta – 25°C
- Gilgit – 22°C
Authorities urge the public to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours.
