Authorities have located the wreckage of a missing cargo aircraft in the Arabian Sea after extensive search efforts. The Pakistan Airports Authority confirmed the development on Wednesday.
The Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Maritime Security Agency recovered the wreckage after nearly 12 hours of search operations. Officials found the aircraft 53 nautical miles south of Ormara.
Search Teams Continue Looking for Missing Crew
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority, rescuers used multiple air and sea assets during the operation. These resources helped locate and identify the wreckage of the K2 Airways Boeing 737 cargo aircraft.
However, authorities have not yet recovered the bodies of the five crew members. Search and recovery operations remain underway, while officials promised to release further updates.
The aircraft disappeared from radar late Tuesday night over the Arabian Sea. It reportedly went missing around 300 kilometres west of Karachi while approaching Pakistani airspace.
Aircraft Lost Contact After Reporting Navigation Problem
Reports said the pilot experienced a navigation problem before losing contact with air traffic control. The crew had requested assistance from the area control centre shortly before communication ended.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the Civil Aviation Authority, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force to intensify search efforts. He instructed all agencies to use every available resource during the operation.
Additionally, the prime minister expressed condolences to the families of the five crew members. K2 Airways, a private airline based in Karachi, has operated since receiving its charter licence in 2018.
