The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province amid warnings of possible terrorist attacks on public gatherings.
The restrictions will remain in effect from September 13 to September 17.
The provincial Home Department issued the notification to protect public life and property and maintain law and order.
Public Gatherings, Processions and Sit-Ins Banned
The restrictions apply across Punjab, including Lahore.
Under the notification, gatherings of five or more people are prohibited in public places, highways and open areas.
Processions, rallies, meetings and sit-ins are also banned during the restriction period.
The public display and carrying of all types of weapons have also been prohibited.
Authorities have further banned activities that encourage or provoke people to participate in illegal gatherings.
Intelligence Reports Warn of Possible Terror Attacks
The Punjab government said the decision followed security information provided by law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
According to the notification, intelligence reports indicated that terrorist organisations could target public gatherings.
Officials warned that large crowds at rallies, demonstrations, meetings and processions could become potential targets.
Law enforcement agencies requested immediate security measures to reduce the threat and protect citizens.
Religious Events and Official Activities Exempted
The Section 144 restrictions do not apply to wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers and burials.
Mosques and other places of worship are also exempt.
Courts, government institutions and officially authorised events will continue under the applicable rules.
Law enforcement, intelligence and security personnel performing official duties are also exempt from the restrictions.
The Home Department said the ban was imposed under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898, with public safety identified as the government’s top priority.
