Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a major water project linked to Daducha Dam in Rawalpindi.
The project includes a surface water treatment plant and a new water supply system for the city. It aims to improve access to clean drinking water for Rawalpindi residents.
According to the Housing Department spokesperson, authorities plan to complete the project by December 2029.
Daducha Dam Project to Supply Clean Water
Under the Punjab government’s plan, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will develop the water supply system.
Once operational, the project will provide treated water from Daducha Dam to Rawalpindi’s supply network.
The project plans to pump 35 million gallons of clean water daily into the supply line. Consequently, residents will gain access to an additional source of drinking water.
The initiative aims to strengthen Rawalpindi’s water supply while addressing the city’s need for clean and safe water.
Rs36 Billion Project Approved
The total estimated cost of the Daducha Dam water project stands at Rs36 billion.
The Punjab government plans to complete the project by December 2029. Meanwhile, the relevant departments will work on the infrastructure required to connect the treated water with Rawalpindi’s supply system.
After the dam project reaches completion, WASA will develop the transmission line and water supply network.
These facilities will connect the water source with the city’s distribution system. As a result, the project is expected to support a more reliable supply of clean water.
New Water Supply Network Planned for Rawalpindi
The surface water treatment plant will form a key part of the planned system. It will treat water before authorities introduce it into the city’s supply network.
Furthermore, WASA will oversee the construction of the water supply infrastructure under the Punjab government’s project.
The planned system is designed to deliver treated water directly into Rawalpindi’s supply lines. The government expects the additional supply to improve access to drinking water across the city.
Project Aims to Strengthen Clean Water Supply
The Daducha Dam project represents a major investment in Rawalpindi’s water infrastructure. It focuses specifically on expanding the availability of clean drinking water.
With an estimated cost of Rs36 billion, the project will include treatment, transmission and water supply infrastructure.
The Punjab government has set December 2029 as the completion target. Once completed, the system is expected to supply 35 million gallons of clean water daily to Rawalpindi.
The project will therefore play an important role in improving the city’s clean water supply and expanding its water infrastructure.
