Work on major motorway and highway projects in the National Highway Authority’s Central Region is being accelerated.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has directed officials to meet key construction deadlines and improve road infrastructure.
M-4 Expansion to Six Lanes
Abdul Aleem Khan ordered the Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad section of the M-4 motorway to be widened from four lanes to six.
He set December 15 as the deadline for completing the expansion.
The directive was issued during an NHA meeting reviewing progress on motorway and highway projects across the Central Region.
The minister instructed officials to speed up construction and ensure the project is completed within the given timeframe.
Several Highway Projects Under Review
The meeting also reviewed progress on several other major road projects.
Officials were directed to accelerate construction of the Lodhran-Multan Expressway.
Work on the Lalamusa Bypass on GT Road (N-5) was also discussed.
The rehabilitation of the Baba Farid Bridge over the Sutlej River was reviewed during the meeting.
Plans were also discussed to connect the Layyah and Taunsa bridges in South Punjab with the wider national highway network.
Abdul Aleem Khan directed the NHA chairman to submit a prompt report on the proposed Phool Nagar Interchange on N-5, along with updates on other development projects.
Focus on Road Quality and Safety
The communications minister instructed the NHA to maintain high construction and safety standards on newly built highways.
He said the Murree-Islamabad Expressway should serve as a model for construction quality.
He also directed officials to ensure modern lighting and improved rest areas on new highways.
Strict Monitoring of Public Funds
Abdul Aleem Khan stressed accountability in the use of public funds.
He directed officials to ensure that every rupee spent on development projects is properly accounted for.
The minister also ordered authorities to prevent unnecessary expenditure and wastage of government resources.
He called for safe pedestrian crossings and better traffic management during ongoing construction.
The directives are intended to accelerate motorway development while improving road safety, travel facilities and infrastructure standards across the NHA Central Region.
