A remarkable event unfolded at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Rawalpindi, Punjab province, as a young woman defied incredible odds of one in 4.7 billion by giving birth to sextuplets. Zeenat Bibi and her husband Waheed, residents of Hazara Colony, are overjoyed with the arrival of their six babies—four boys and two girls.
Medical professionals have confirmed that the newborns, with normal birth weights and robust health, are receiving attentive care at the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (ICU). Zeenat Bibi is also reported to be in good health following the birth.
Sextuplets, a rarity in nature, can result from various circumstances. While the use of fertility drugs has increased the likelihood of multiple births, medical experts caution against their indiscriminate use.
There are distinct types of sextuplets, some being fraternal and others identical. Fraternal sextuplets originate from separate egg and sperm combinations, while identical sextuplets occur when a single fertilized egg divides into multiple embryos. Although cases of sextuplets resulting from successive embryo splitting have not been confirmed, it remains a possibility. Additionally, within a group of sextuplets, there can be sets of identical twins.
The challenges ahead for the family are significant, as caring for one newborn is a demanding task in itself, let alone six. Nonetheless, amidst the immense joy, the Bibi family embarks on this journey of nurturing their six newborns with determination and love.
