The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecasted strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal to penetrate upper regions of Pakistan. According to the NDMA’s statement on Tuesday, these currents could lead to a series of rains across various parts of the country over the next 24 hours, potentially continuing until July 27.
Additionally, thunderstorms and rain are expected to hit the coastal areas of Sindh tonight, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Larkana Division, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Islamkot, and surrounding areas.
The National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) also anticipates heavy to moderate rainfall in southern Punjab’s Rohi and Rahim Yar Khan, as well as in Azad Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy to moderate rainfall is expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan, as well as in areas of Gilgit Baltistan.
The NDMA has urged the public to take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential impacts of flooding and landslides due to the rains. It also warned of possible urban flooding, rising water levels in streams and rivers, and landslides in mountainous regions.
Instructions have been issued to all relevant departments to alert Emergency Response Teams and mobilize resources for a swift response to any arising situations. Tourists are advised to avoid traveling to these areas during the forecasted period, and the public is encouraged to stay vigilant and follow instructions from local authorities.
The NDMA recommends the public stay informed by downloading the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile app for timely alerts and closely monitoring weather reports.
