Resignation Rejected
The Jamaat-e-Islami has adamantly rejected the resignation tendered by party chief Sirajul Haq, expressing unwavering confidence in his leadership, as outlined in a statement by party spokesperson Qaiser Sharif on Saturday. Despite Sirajul Haq’s offer to step down earlier in the week following the lackluster electoral performance, the Central Majlis Shura unanimously opted not to accept his resignation.
In the wake of the elections, allegations of electoral misconduct have been vocalized by several party leaders, with Hafiz Naeemur Rehman in Karachi going to the extent of relinquishing his seat, contending that an independent candidate backed by the PTI had clinched victory. The 2024 elections saw the Jamaat-e-Islami failing to secure a single seat in the National Assembly, with PTI-supported independent candidates emerging as the predominant group.
The official statement disclosed that Sirajul Haq has resumed his responsibilities and is expected to address the party imminently. According to the party’s constitution, the chief will persist in his role, and the spokesperson attributed the electoral setback to purported rigging rather than any inadequacies on the part of Sirajul Haq.
Emphatically declaring the election results unacceptable, the party has called for the immediate resignation of the chief election commissioner, further underscoring its stance against what it perceives as electoral irregularities. This robust rejection of Sirajul Haq’s resignation underscores the party’s commitment to challenging the perceived injustices and asserting its position amidst the post-election dynamics.
