Shahid Aziz, Infamous as Gullu Butt, Passes Away in Lahore

Gullu Butt

Shahid Aziz, famously known as Gullu Butt, the notorious figure who gained infamy for his baton-wielding rampage during the violence in Model Town back in 2014, has passed away in Lahore, as confirmed by his family.

Reports suggest that Butt had been battling a severe illness for the past four to five months, which ultimately led to his demise.

According to his brother, Abdul Ghani Butt, also known as Gulla Butt, Shahid had been suffering from a brain hemorrhage and diabetes, ailments that had significantly deteriorated his health over time.

Recent footage of Gullu Butt surfaced, revealing his incapacitated state, confined to his bed and unable to communicate. Ghani Butt mentioned that Shahid’s vision had also been impaired due to complications from diabetes.

The incident that propelled Gullu Butt into notoriety occurred on June 17, 2014, outside the Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Model Town.

Amidst protests led by Dr. Tahirul Qadri’s workers, Gullu Butt engaged in rowdyism, obstructing law enforcement officials and vandalizing private vehicles with a club.

Shockingly, despite his blatant criminal actions, the police present at the scene remained passive observers, failing to intervene and effectively enabling Butt’s unlawful behavior.

Gullu Butt’s actions sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, highlighting issues of law enforcement accountability and justice in Pakistan.

His name became synonymous with hooliganism and impunity, emblematic of a system where influential individuals could act with impunity.

With his passing, Shahid Aziz leaves behind a legacy marked by controversy and disdain, serving as a reminder of the need for transparency, accountability, and justice within the law enforcement apparatus.
