Rawalpindi Metro Bus driver and staff arrested after child’s death

Police have detained the driver and staff of a Metro bus following the tragic death of a four-year-old boy at Liaquat Bagh Metro Bus Station in Rawalpindi. A case has been registered against them for alleged negligence and recklessness.

The incident occurred when Rehan, traveling with his family, got trapped between the bus and the station gate. Sources revealed that the absence of a Metro guard at the gate contributed to the accident. Rehan, a resident of Nathiagali, was visiting his grandmother in Rawalpindi with his mother at the time of the incident.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), filed by the boy’s mother at Waris Khan Police Station, the tragedy happened while the family was disembarking from the Metro bus. Rehan became stuck in a gap alongside the station gate. The bus driver allegedly drove off before the station door had fully closed, causing the child to fall onto the track and be run over. Despite his cries for help, there was no intervention.

The case underscores potential negligence by both the bus driver and the Metro bus administration. Authorities have registered the case and taken the accused into custody. The investigation will address the role of the absent guard and whether safety protocols were followed.

This heartbreaking incident has raised concerns over passenger safety and operational oversight within the Metro bus service. Families are urging stricter enforcement of safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
