Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah was reportedly treated at the military-run Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AIFC).
According to sources close to the federal minister, he complained of being ill on Thursday and was taken to AFIC the same day for scans.
On Friday evening, he had a “procedure” involving his heart.
According to sources, he is now completely healthy and recovering from the procedure. He also talked on the phone with family and friends.
However, the news made headlines on Friday evening after a photo of the minister lying on a stretcher for a medical procedure went viral on social media.
The interior ministry later issued a statement in which it quoted the minister as saying he was fine.
“I went to the hospital for a few tests and procedures.” I’m getting better and should be back at work in a day or two. Please do not pay me a visit to the hospital as I intend to return home on Sunday,” the statement added.
Sana stated that after his photo went viral on social media, his friends and family became concerned. He stated that he had open heart surgery in 2004 and that check-ups are required every two to three years.
Sanaullah stated that he had heart surgery in 2004, which necessitates a minor procedure and a general checkup every two to three years.
He went to the hospital “two to three times this year” for this purpose, he said.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting, also posted clarifications on the matter.
