KARACHI: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced that mobile services in certain areas of Karachi will be partially suspended until the 10th of Muharram (July 29). The Ministry of Interior issued instructions to suspend the services.
Mobile services are being affected at different times in some areas, as consumers have complained. Some areas are facing complete shutdowns.
The affected areas with either suspended or partially suspended mobile services include Steel Town, Gulshan-e-Hadid, Jaffer e Tayar Society, Malir 15, Future Colony, Dawood Chowrangi, and Haji Zakaria Goth. Additionally, services are partially suspended in Shah Latif Town, Bhitaiabad, Memon Goth Main Market, Bin Qasim Town, and other areas.
To observe Ashura, the federal government has declared public holidays on the 9th and 10th of Muharram (July 28 and 29). This evening of July 20 marked the beginning of the new Islamic year 1445 AH. The observance of Youm-e-Ashura will take place on July 29 (Saturday).
To ensure uninterrupted Ashura activities, the Government of Sindh has banned pillion riding on Muharram 9 and 10. Section 144 of the CrPC implements it to ensure security during the Ashura. Additionally, the federal government has approved the deployment of armed forces across the country. The aim is to enhance security during the holy month of Muharram.
Government Declares Public Holidays For Muharram 9th And 10th
Earlier, the federal government made an announcement, declaring public holidays on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, which falls on July 28 and 29.
These holidays are in observance of Ashura, a significant event in the Islamic calendar. The Prime Minister issued a notification through the Cabinet Division to officially declare the notification. These dates as public holidays for the entire country.
