President Alvi hopes new army chief will end trust deficit among institutions

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi anticipated that army chief General Asim Munir will reduce the trust deficit among institutions.

President Alvi said the military leadership was committed to keep institution away from politics.

He said, “The matter of appointment of army chief has been settled nicely for the next three years, adding that the appointment was done on merit.”

About his meeting with PTI Chairman Imran Khan ahead of the COAS appointment, President of Pakistan said that Imran Khan was informed about being consulted after the summary was received. Therefore, Ali said that the consultations were held accordingly.

Alvi, nonetheless, said that Imran Khan should avoid commenting on the COAS appointment as it was the right of parliament.

Gen Munir was handed over the command of the military by General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa in a ceremony held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on November 29.

Talking about Imran Khan’s remarks of double game by army chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, President Alvi said: “Khan’s comments may be based on his own experience.”
