The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Indian Charge d’Affaires in response to the killing of a 60-year-old civilian named Ghias.

Ghias was a resident of Oli village in the Kotli district. The incident occurred on August 21 in the Nikial Sector of the Line of Control (LoC).

The Ministry emphasized the crucial importance of maintaining peace and tranquility along the LoC. They highlighted that such actions directly contravene the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding, which was reaffirmed in February 2021.

Furthermore, the Ministry underlined the necessity for the Indian forces to exercise the utmost caution.

Targeting innocent civilians goes against principles of human dignity, as well as international human rights and humanitarian laws.

The Ministry urged the Indian side to thoroughly investigate the incident and to uphold the commitments outlined in the Ceasefire Understanding.
