PAC Member Alleges Threats and Power Disconnection After Probing Wapda Chief

A Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting on Wednesday took a dramatic turn when PTI MNA Sanaullah Masti Khel accused the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) of taking retaliatory measures against him for raising concerns over a multibillion-rupee hydropower project.

Speaking to reporters after the session, Masti Khel revealed that he had questioned Wapda Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Sajjad Ghani a day earlier regarding irregularities in the cost of the Dasu hydropower project. “I asked why a project initially valued at Rs4 billion ended up costing Rs36 billion,” he said, also voicing objections over Ghani’s appointment to the post.

According to Masti Khel, his house and those of some relatives were targeted later that night when electricity meters were suddenly removed. “This was done without any notice or explanation. Not only were meters taken away, but there were also threats of demolishing buildings,” he claimed.

He emphasized that he was not a defaulter and had not committed any wrongdoing. “If raising questions about the dam project, which is now being investigated by NAB, is a crime, then I accept responsibility,” he stated.

Calling the move a direct affront to parliamentary authority, the PTI lawmaker warned that such actions could hinder the PAC’s oversight role. “If we are punished for performing our duties and demanding accountability, how can the committee function effectively?” he asked.

Members of the committee stood in solidarity with Masti Khel, unanimously denouncing the alleged retaliation. They urged the Speaker of the National Assembly to take notice of the incident and initiate strict measures.

Reaffirming his dedication to oversight, Masti Khel declared, “We will continue to ask such questions in the interest of transparency and accountability. It’s not about an electricity meter or transformer—it’s about respect for Parliament.”
