ISLAMABAD – The federal capital is hosting the inaugural Pakistan Overseas Convention, welcoming more than 1,500 participants from over 80 countries, all of whom have been officially declared state guests.
Held at the Convention Centre, the two-day event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, the national anthem, and enthusiastic chants of “Pakistan Zindabad.” The convention is designed to recognize the vital contributions of overseas Pakistanis and enhance their involvement in the country’s development.
Among the prominent attendees are National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, federal ministers, Pakistani diplomats, and key figures from multiple sectors.
Chairman of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF), Syed Qamar Raza, announced in his opening remarks that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is likely to unveil a special package for overseas Pakistanis during his address on the final day of the convention.
Formal dinners are also part of the event: one hosted by Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir tonight, followed by another hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif tomorrow. Both leaders are expected to address the gathering during their respective appearances.
The convention not only celebrates the crucial role of overseas Pakistanis in economic growth through remittances and investments, but also serves as a platform for them to voice concerns, share ideas, and engage directly with policymakers.
Many participants expressed renewed optimism, viewing the government’s recent outreach as a promising step toward expanding investment opportunities and reinforcing their connection to Pakistan.
Information Minister Atta Tarar, while addressing the gathering, praised overseas Pakistanis as the “pride and crown jewels of the nation,” highlighting their multibillion-dollar remittance contributions and their key role in economic resilience and national development.
