A delegation from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), headed by party General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, held a meeting with US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, on Monday. Following the meeting, Ayub clarified that the discussion did not involve the release of Imran Khan.
During the session, held at the opposition leader’s office, the PTI delegation addressed issues concerning the rule of law and the ongoing political turmoil in Pakistan. Ayub, speaking to the press afterward, described the dialogue with the US Ambassador as productive, focusing on the paramount importance of upholding the rule of law for the nation’s advancement. He stressed that a conducive environment for economic growth hinges on maintaining the rule of law.
Ayub also expressed approval of the Supreme Court’s ruling on reserved seats, which has stirred controversy surrounding the election of key governmental positions. He highlighted that those elected on reserved seats for women and minorities are not aligned with the government.
The Opposition Leader underscored the prevalent chaos in the country, leading to stagnation in business activities. Additionally, he drew attention to the wheat import scandal, which has incurred significant financial losses for the nation.
In response to a question regarding whether the PTI delegation raised concerns about Imran Khan’s case with the US Ambassador, Ayub asserted that the Ambassador lacks authority to secure anyone’s release in Pakistan. He reaffirmed the PTI’s stance of not discussing internal matters with foreign diplomats, emphasizing their patriotism.
Ayub concluded by dismissing the cases against Imran Khan and other PTI leaders as baseless.
