Pakistani Rangers cordon off the Parliament during an ongoing protest by followers of Imran Khan and Tahir-ul-Qadri in Islamabad on August 27, 2014. Pakistan's embattled prime minister said August 27 he would not cave in to protests demanding his resignation, striking a defiant note in his first major speech since the crisis erupted two weeks ago. Thousands of Khan's and Qadri's followers have been camped outside parliament since August 15 demanding Sharif quit, claiming the election which swept him to power last year was rigged. National Assembly meets today with 11-point agenda including airport authority and trade marks bills

ISLAMABAD: The session of the National Assembly is starting today afternoon with 11-point agenda.

The session will start at 3 pm and the National Assembly will consider the approval of the Pakistan Airports Authority Bill 2022, the Trade Marks (Amendment) Bill 2023, drug smuggling from the Afghanistan border, and delay in allotments of plots in F-14 and F-15 sectors in Islamabad.

According to sources, the approval of the Pakistan Airports Authority Bill 2022 will lead to the outsourcing of ground operations of the major airports to Qatar and the upgradation of the facilities and infrastructure at the airports.

Qatar had already shown interest in acquiring ground operations at three leading airports of Pakistan _ Islamabad International Airport, Allama Iqbal Airport in Lahore, and Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.

The members of the National Assembly will also discuss measures to curb the flow of illegal narcotics into the country. Cross-border smuggling of narcotics from Afghanistan has become a matter of concern for the government and lawmakers. The members of the legislative assembly will evolve a mechanism that will discourage the smuggling of narcotics.

Also, the Trade Marks (Amendment) Bill 2023 is also expected to be approved in the current session. The bill will incorporate much-needed reforms in Pakistan’s intellectual property laws, particularly those governing the trademarks regime.

Moreover, the National Assembly is taking up the issue of delay in the allotment of plots in F-14 and F-15 sectors in Islamabad.

The members of the assembly will highlight the issues the residents of both the new sectors are facing and evolve a plan of action to address their concerns.

The NA session has been convened keeping in view the hearing of the judicial reforms bill case by the eight-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
