Two separate landslides were reported in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, claiming the life of a Thai tourist and injuring three others. The victims were part of a group of international travelers exploring the region’s scenic landscapes.
The fatal incident took place in the Ghwari area, where a sudden landslide hit a vehicle carrying the tourists. A Thai woman was killed instantly, while three others sustained injuries. Rescue teams responded swiftly, transporting the injured to a nearby hospital for medical care.
A second landslide was reported in the Chamacho area of Skardu. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities occurred in that event.
Officials attribute the landslides to unstable weather conditions and melting snow, which have compromised the stability of slopes in the mountainous terrain. In response, local authorities have urged both residents and tourists to remain vigilant and avoid high-risk areas.
Despite the recent incidents, Skardu continues to attract visitors from around the world, especially during the spring and summer months, drawn by its natural beauty and adventure opportunities.
