Security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa conducted two separate operations in Dera Ismail Khan and North Waziristan districts, resulting in the elimination of eleven terrorists, as confirmed by the military’s media wing, ISPR, on Monday.
According to an ISPR press release, the operations were carried out overnight following intelligence reports indicating the presence of terrorists in the targeted areas.
In Dera Ismail Khan district, a successful intelligence-based operation led to the neutralization of ten terrorists after a fierce exchange of fire.
Simultaneously, in North Waziristan district, security forces engaged terrorists, resulting in the elimination of one more militant.
The ISPR emphasized that the militants had been actively involved in various terrorist activities, posing threats to both security forces and civilians. Additionally, arms and ammunition were seized during the operations.
Local communities expressed appreciation for the decisive actions taken by security forces in eliminating the terrorist threat. The ISPR reiterated the commitment of security forces to eradicate terrorism from the country.
This development follows a recent incident where seven terrorists were killed while attempting to infiltrate the Afghan-Pakistan border in North Waziristan.
Earlier in the month, security forces also eliminated two militants in a similar encounter in the same district.
Pakistan has faced an increase in terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the cessation of a ceasefire between the government and the banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in November 2022.
According to a report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan witnessed a notable rise in violence-related fatalities and injuries in 2023, with over 90% of fatalities and 84% of attacks concentrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
