ISPR Raises Concerns Over Use of Afghan Soil for Terrorist Activities

RAWALPINDI: At a press conference, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Major General Ahmed Sharif emphasized that Afghan soil is being exploited against Pakistan.

He referenced a tragic incident on March 2 in Bisham, where a suicide bomber targeted a car carrying Chinese engineers working on the Dasu dam. This attack resulted in the deaths of five Chinese citizens and one Pakistani. Major General Sharif pointed out that the planning of this terrorism act was orchestrated from across the border in Afghanistan. The perpetrators and their facilitators were operating from Afghan territory, with the suicide bomber being an Afghan national.

In March, a suicide attack on a convoy in Bisham claimed the lives of five Chinese nationals and a Pakistani citizen, prompting the Chinese embassy to urge Pakistan to take severe action against the attackers and enhance security for Chinese nationals working in the country.

Major General Sharif highlighted that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) continues to perpetrate acts of terrorism within Pakistan, resulting in significant losses of lives among soldiers, workers, and law enforcement agencies. He stressed Pakistan’s tireless efforts for peace, especially in Afghanistan, emphasizing its vital role in regional stability.

Despite Pakistan’s relentless pursuit of peace, Major General Sharif reiterated that banned groups like the TTP are using Afghan territory as a launchpad for attacks on Pakistan. He disclosed concrete evidence of TTP terrorists operating from Afghan soil and noted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to address this issue, including registering protests through the Foreign Office.

Major General Sharif affirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to eliminating terrorist networks and safeguarding its citizens, reaffirming that Pakistan will spare no effort to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of its people.
