Islamabad Bar Association Declares Boycott of High Court Over Judicial Transfers

The Islamabad Bar Association, along with the High Court Bar and District Bar Association, has announced a boycott of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and district courts in response to the recent transfer of three judges by the Ministry of Law.

During a press conference on Sunday, Islamabad Bar Chairman Aleem Abassi strongly condemned the transfers, labeling them as a deliberate attempt to create divisions within the judiciary. He stated that representatives from the Islamabad High Court, District Court, and High Court were present at the meeting, where it was unanimously decided that the legal community would not accept these judicial reassignments.

“The transfers are not only unjustified but also appear to be an orchestrated move to weaken judicial independence,” Abassi asserted. He further emphasized that the legal fraternity remains united in resisting any actions that could undermine the integrity of the judiciary.

The lawyers’ associations rejected the Ministry of Law’s decision and declared their intent to hold strong protests against what they view as an infringement on judicial autonomy. They warned that any interference with judicial matters would not be tolerated.

As part of their protest, a nationwide lawyers’ convention has been scheduled for Monday at 11 AM at the District Court in G-11. Legal professionals across Islamabad will also observe a complete strike, refraining from appearing in court proceedings.

The boycott marks a significant escalation in tensions between the legal community and the government, as lawyers demand a reversal of the transfers. They have vowed to continue their protest until their concerns are addressed, calling for transparency and fairness in judicial appointments and transfers.

The legal community remains steadfast in its stance, urging the authorities to respect judicial independence and uphold the rule of law.
