IHC stops NA body’s proceedings against Najam Saqib in audio leaks case

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court stopped the proceedings of a committee of the National Assembly that was probing the audio leaks involving Najam Saqib, son of former chief justice Saqib Nisar.

IHC Judge Babar Sattar, however, mentioned no reasons for stopping the NA’s body to probe Najam Saqib in audio leak involving sale of PTI tickets to a couple of contestants in Punjab against ‘reward money’.

The IHC Judge Babar Sattar also suspended the notice issued to former chief justice Saqib Nisar in audio leak case being probed by a committee of the Parliament.

The IHC took this action a petition which challenged the recording of telephonic conversation.

A few days ago, the National Assembly Speaker formed a body of the MNAs to probe the audio leaks by summoning the individuals, including former chief justice Saqib Nisar, his son Najam Saqib, mother-in-law of chief justice Bandial and others.

The National Assembly Secretariat appointed Aslam Bhootani as the chairman of the committee, comprising MNAs Shahida Akhtar Ali, Muhammad Abu Bakr, Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir, Sheikh Rohale Asghar, Syed Hussain Tariq, Naz Baloch, Khalid Hussain Magsi, Wajiha Qamar and Dr. Muhammad Afzal Khan Dhandla.

The committee issued notices to former chief justice Saqib Nisar and his son Najam Saqib to appear before it in the audio leaks.

The IHC Judge Babar Sattar, however, suspended the notice issued to Saqib Nisar and sought arguments from senior lawyer and PPP leader Sardar Latif Khosa as to ‘who is recording audios’. Here is the case is going on and the story will be updated further today.

Najam Saqib, son of ex-CJP challenges audio leaks committee of NA

Najam Saqib, son of former chief justice Saqib Nisar challenged in the Islamabad High Court the NA committee to probe audio leaks.

A few days ago, Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf formed a committee to look into the scandals of audio leaks.

Najam Saqib, who got famous from his leaked audios involving the sale of PTI tickets for making filthy money, has challenged the NA’s body.

In his petition, Najam Saqib said that the NA Speaker did not have the authority to form this body.

Therefore, he urged the Islamabad High Court to declare unlawful the committee.

Importantly, the NA’s committee has summoned Najam Saqib, son of the most controversial ex-chief justice, in the leaked audios which surfaced a couple of months ago.

In the audio, Najam Saqib can be heard talking about the approval of PTI tickets for a couple of candidates. He also asks one of his confidants not to accept less than 1.20.

It is believed that he is talking about one crore and 20 lakh rupees (12 million rupees) for facilitating a contestant in the election to get a PTI ticket for the Punjab Assembly seat.

Some controversial audios of Saqib Nisar have also surfaced on the social media and the PML-N leaders have blamed him for hatching conspiracies against Sharifs.
