Govt eases restrictions in Punjab as smog situation improves

The Punjab government has announced the relaxation of restrictions on outdoor activities from November 22 due to improved air quality in Lahore and other cities. Public and private parks, museums, historical sites, and sporting events will reopen but must close by 8 PM. Citizens are urged to follow safety protocols, including wearing masks outdoors and avoiding strenuous activities if they are over 65 or have heart or lung conditions.

Children under five are advised against prolonged stays in playgrounds. Marketplaces in cities like Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala will also close by 8 PM, with essential services such as pharmacies and grocery stores exempt from the rule.

This decision follows a severe smog crisis earlier this month, which led to stringent measures, including school closures and bans on recreational area access. With air quality improving, officials aim to provide safe outdoor experiences while maintaining public health guidelines.
