Gas Prices

Just days after a reduction in fuel prices, the petroleum division is poised to present a proposal for a 172% increase in natural gas prices for domestic consumers during the Economic Coordination Committee meeting scheduled for tomorrow (Monday), according to sources.

The caretaker finance minister has convened a meeting at 4 pm tomorrow to discuss the proposed gas tariff increase effective from October 1, as reported by the sources.

The summary submitted by the petroleum division recommends a nearly 200% surge in the gas tariff, which translates to a 172% price hike for domestic consumers. It also outlines a 200% increase in the gas price.

Moreover, the summary advocates raising the fixed monthly charges for protected customers from Rs10 to Rs400, while proposing a substantial 3,900% increase in the fixed charges for the lowest gas users.

The anticipated gas price adjustment is expected to take effect starting October 1, as per the sources.
