BANNU: The funeral rites were somberly held with formal respects at the Iqbal Shaheed Police Line in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Saturday, paying tribute to the bravery of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gul Muhammad Khan and Constable Naseem Gul, who lost their lives in a devastating assault near Manjiwala Chowk in Lakki Marwat district the night before.
Tragically, another officer, Constable Sanamat Khan, also fell victim to violence in a separate incident in Sara Darga district.
Affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, the assailants claimed responsibility for these cowardly attacks, underscoring the persistent threat of terrorism in the region.
Despite the looming shadow of danger, a multitude of mourners, including police and army officers, congregated to bid farewell to the fallen heroes.
During the funeral proceedings, heartfelt tributes were paid by Bannu District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed, Lakki Marwat DPO Taimur Khan, Bannu SP Operation Sanaullah, and army officials, who laid floral wreaths on the coffins of the martyrs and offered prayers for their souls.
DPO Ahmed lauded the bravery and dedication of the departed officers, vowing unwavering support for their grieving families.
Emphasizing the resolve of law enforcement agencies, DPO Ahmed affirmed that perpetrators of such heinous acts would be pursued relentlessly until justice is served.
He reiterated the commitment to eradicate terrorism from the area, acknowledging the invaluable public support in the fight against extremism.
Echoing sentiments of resilience, Lakki Marwat DPO Taimur Khan hailed the sacrifices of police personnel throughout the nation’s history, recognizing their unwavering courage in the face of adversity.
He extended condolences to the bereaved families, expressing pride in the bravery displayed by the fallen officers.
In response to the tragic events, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the terrorist attack and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred officers. He praised the bravery of KP police and reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to combat terrorism.
Similarly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur denounced the attack and pledged full support to the families of the martyrs, announcing financial assistance under the Shuhada Package.
Governor Haji Ghulam Ali also expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and condemned the reprehensible act of violence.
As the nation mourns the loss of these brave souls, their sacrifices serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle against terrorism and the unwavering determination to uphold peace and security in the region.
