In the midst of deepening divisions within the ranks of PTI, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently imprisoned, disclosed on Saturday that some members of the party were in communication with its adversaries, aiming to dismantle it.
Speaking to journalists from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Khan made these revelations, echoing similar sentiments expressed earlier by PTI leader Shehryar Afridi, who, without naming individuals, criticized certain elements within the party.
Addressing a public gathering in Kohat, Afridi emphasized the importance of supporting loyal party workers and cautioned against those he referred to as “snakes” and “hypocrites” within PTI. Khan also referenced these internal challenges, highlighting accusations against his wife, Bushra Bibi, and extending a conciliatory gesture towards his rivals, suggesting openness to dialogue.
Khan further expressed his grievances towards former COAS General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, accusing him of betrayal despite their past interactions. Despite tensions, Khan stressed his reluctance for confrontation with the military and recounted alleged conversations with Bajwa and retired Lt-Gen Faiz Hamid regarding corruption allegations against political figures.
Touching on recent political developments, Khan referenced alleged election rigging and applauded Islamabad High Court judges for their stance against perceived interference by intelligence agencies. He also raised concerns over threats faced by judges, citing recent incidents, and vowed to take legal action against the NAB chairman and an alleged approver in the Toshakhana reference.
In summary, Khan’s remarks shed light on internal rifts within PTI, his stance on alleged external interference, and his determination to address legal challenges.
