Foreign Minister

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday that Bakhtiyor Saidov, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is scheduled for an official visit to Islamabad on May 8-9, 2024.

During this visit, Minister Saidov is slated to engage in discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister as well as Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, delving into a spectrum of bilateral issues, notably focusing on trade and connectivity.

The forthcoming visit of the Uzbekistan Foreign Minister is anticipated to inject fresh vigor into the already warm relations between the two nations.

Concurrently, reports suggest a potential visit from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Al Saud to Pakistan in the same month of May, marking his first visit to the country in five years since his last trip in February 2019.

The anticipated visit is poised to witness the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) amounting to $5 billion in investment. Finalization of the visit’s dates is currently underway.

This prospective visit will mark the third face-to-face meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman within a span of five weeks, signifying the strengthening of bilateral ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Notably, a recent visit by a high-level trade delegation from Saudi Arabia, led by Deputy Minister for Investment Ibrahim al-Mubarak, aimed at exploring investment opportunities across various sectors and fostering closer ties with Pakistani entrepreneurs.

The delegation, comprising approximately 50 members representing around 35 companies from diverse economic sectors, underscores the mutual interest in enhancing economic cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

These diplomatic engagements signify a concerted effort to bolster bilateral relations and explore avenues for collaborative growth and development between the two nations.
