Electric Bus Service Starts in Islamabad

Electric Bus

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad has initiated a trial service for electric buses, marking a significant step towards sustainable urban transport. This move aligns with the city’s broader goals of reducing pollution and enhancing the convenience of commuting for its residents.

The trial began on Monday with buses running along feeder route number four, which connects PIMS Hospital to Quaid-e-Azam University. These light blue, environmentally friendly buses are currently operating every ten minutes, although they are not yet accepting passengers.

The key landmarks along this route include Radio Colony, Satara Market, Melody, Aabpara, NADRA Chowk, and Serena Hotel, with Quaid-e-Azam University serving as the route’s final terminus.

This trial phase is set to run until the end of June, after which the bus service will officially commence on July 1st, coinciding with the new fiscal year. During the trial period, the service will be free of charge.

However, once the official operations begin, a fare of Rs. 50 will be implemented. In addition to route number four, another route that serves NUST University and passes through regions near Karachi Company, G-10, and G-11 Markezs has also started its trial run.

This initiative is part of a larger plan by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), which also includes the Green and Blue Line services currently in operation. At present, four of the 14 authorized feeder lines are in use.

The introduction of these electric buses is a part of a larger delivery of 160 buses purchased from China, with thirty already in Islamabad.

This project is expected to significantly improve the commuting experience for locals, particularly benefiting women, senior citizens, and students.

Additionally, the electric buses are anticipated to contribute to a reduction in both noise and air pollution in the city.

The implementation of electric buses represents a forward-thinking approach to urban transportation in Islamabad.

By integrating these environmentally friendly vehicles into the public transport system, the city aims to provide a more efficient and sustainable mode of transport.

This initiative not only aligns with global trends towards greener public transportation but also demonstrates a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Islamabad’s residents through improved and sustainable urban mobility solutions.
