Changes in Electric Bus Routes by CDA Enhance Commuting Experience in Islamabad

Electric Bus Routes

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has made a substantial adjustment to the initial routes of its electric bus service, aiming to enhance connectivity and sustainability in Islamabad.

The decision comes as part of the first phase of implementation, which prioritizes urban sectors over previously planned routes.

In this revised plan, the electric buses will not operate on the originally intended routes from IJP to PIMS and Taramri Chowk to PIMS.

Instead, the focus will be on serving urban areas with improved accessibility and eco-friendly transportation options for residents.

The newly established routes offer convenient connectivity across key areas of the city. The first route will link NUST, Orange Line Depo, G-11 to PIMS Hospital, with 13 designated stops along the way.

Meanwhile, the second route will commence from PIMS and extend to Bari Imam, traversing through G-7, G-6, Melody Market, Aabpara, Ataturk Road, Serena Hotel, Foreign Office, Radio Pakistan, and Diplomatic Enclave.

Operating hours for these routes are set from 6 AM to 10 PM, ensuring accessibility throughout the day, with a bus scheduled to arrive every 10 minutes.

The decision to alter routes is attributed to ongoing construction on Park Road, rendering the Taramri Chowk to PIMS route impractical for the initial phase.

However, the CDA’s Transport Wing has proposed an alternate route post-construction completion.

In the interim, electric buses will commence operations from Jinnah Convention Center until a permanent bus depot is established.

The launch of the electric bus service is anticipated post-Eid al-Adha, with 30 out of 150 buses already imported from China through the National Radio and Transportation Corporation (NRTC).

This initiative is poised to significantly enhance public transportation in Islamabad, offering a seamless, efficient, and environmentally friendly mode of commuting for residents.
