EasyPaisa has recently addressed concerns circulating on social media regarding the alleged blocking of accounts not linked to users’ mobile phone numbers and CNIC (National Identity Card) numbers.
According to the rumors, the central bank planned to block these accounts, prompting widespread anxiety among EasyPaisa users. However, the company has clarified that there is no truth to these claims.
In an official statement, EasyPaisa firmly denied that accounts are being blocked on this basis and confirmed that no such directive has been issued by the central bank. Khurram Zia, Member Director of Net Shell Communications Private Limited, which manages public relations for EasyPaisa, publicly dismissed the rumors as misinformation. He shared an official statement from EasyPaisa, refuting the claims and emphasizing that users’ accounts remain fully active.
The company reassured its users through posts on its official X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook accounts, stating that the rumors about account closures and potential service disruptions are unfounded. EasyPaisa emphasized that all accounts are fully operational, and there has been no interruption in services.
These unfounded claims first appeared on September 30 via a post on X. The post suggested that, in line with the State Bank’s alleged directives, accounts not linked to users’ mobile numbers and CNICs would be blocked by September 30, 2024. The message urged users to share the information, which quickly spread, gaining over 12,000 views and 60 reposts.
In response, EasyPaisa reaffirmed that there has been no directive from the State Bank, and the platform continues to operate normally. The company encouraged users to rely on official channels for accurate information, highlighting its commitment to ensuring seamless financial services for its customers.
