Court Orders Arrest of Bushra Bibi, To Be Presented on November 26

The Accountability Court in Islamabad has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan, in connection with the 190 million pound corruption case. The court has directed law enforcement authorities to arrest her and ensure her presence in court on November 26.

This decision followed Bushra Bibi’s continued absence from court hearings, despite seeking exemption on medical grounds, which was rejected by the court. During the hearing, the prosecution argued that her repeated requests for exemption were tactics to delay proceedings. They also pointed out discrepancies in her medical report, which was issued by Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital but notarized in Islamabad.

As a result, the court canceled her bail and issued the arrest warrant. Additionally, a show-cause notice was served to her guarantor, and the hearing has been adjourned until November 26, with clear instructions for her to appear in court.

The defense team had submitted a list of 16 witnesses, including prominent individuals like the Vice Chancellor of Government College University Lahore and former officials from the Cabinet Division and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). However, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) raised concerns that the submission of this witness list was a delaying tactic and urged the court to proceed with questioning the accused once the witness testimonies are completed. The court has reserved its decision on when to call these witnesses.

During the hearing, PTI founder Imran Khan’s family, including his three sisters, was present in court. Imran Khan has been instructed to submit his statement as part of the proceedings.
