  • Police on alert after Afghan youth gather in Islamabad’s F-9 Park

Police were put on alert after receiving information that some individuals were displaying Afghanistan’s national flag and chanting slogans in F-9 Park and other areas of Islamabad on Sunday.

  • Warship for Pakistan Navy launched in Istanbul

The presidents of Pakis­tan and Turkey participated in the launch of the first Milgem Class Cor­vette for Pakistan Navy at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard (INSY) on Sunday.

According to information reaching here, President Dr Arif Alvi and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan graced the occasion as chief guests.

The First Lady, Samina Alvi, launched the warship with a prayer.

Both the presidents also jointly performed steel cutting of Akhisar, the offshore patrol vessel for Turkish Navy.

  • NSC meets today to deliberate on situation

Prime Minister Imran Khan has convened an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee on Monday (today) to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

The meeting, to be chaired by the prime minister and attended by civil and military leadership and high ranking officials, would ponder over the rapidly changing situation in Afghanistan and possible challenges for Pakistan.

A briefing on national security matters and situation at Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan will also be given during the meeting.

Conversely, he added, “a government that doesn’t uphold the basic rights of its people, including women and girls; that harbors terrorist groups that have designs on the United States or allies and partners — certainly, that’s not going to happen.”
