PMSA Rescues Nine Crew Members from Indian Cargo Vessel

PMSA

The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) recently conducted a successful Search and Rescue (SAR) operation to rescue nine crew members from the Indian cargo vessel Tajdare Haram.

The incident occurred about 120 nautical miles south of Karachi when the vessel began taking on water, prompting the crew to abandon ship.

At around 11 am on December 26, the vessel reported water ingress, leading to the crew’s decision to take refuge in a life raft.

Upon receiving the distress call from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai, India, the PMSA swiftly launched a coordinated rescue operation.

The PMSA deployed an aircraft and instructed nearby merchant vessels and PMSA ships to head towards the location of the distressed vessel.

The PMSA aircraft successfully located the survivors, and the Indian Coast Guard vessel, operating in nearby Indian waters, was guided to the scene to recover the crew.

This successful operation marked the second such rescue in just three weeks. Earlier, on December 4, the PMSA had rescued 12 Indian crew members from another vessel, MSV Peeran-e-Peer, which had also experienced distress in the region.

In both cases, the PMSA’s rapid response and coordination with Indian maritime authorities were crucial in saving the lives of the stranded crew members.

The distress signal for the Tajdare Haram was sent via an urgent email from the MRCC Mumbai, requesting immediate assistance in locating and rescuing the survivors.

The vessel was reported to have sunk in Pakistan’s exclusive economic zone, leaving its crew stranded on a life raft in dire conditions.

The swift and efficient operation by the PMSA, involving multiple assets and agencies, led to the successful rescue of all nine survivors from the Tajdare Haram.

The PMSA’s commitment to maritime safety and upholding international obligations, as per the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention, was highlighted in a statement issued after the operation.

The agency emphasized its dedication to saving lives at sea, regardless of nationality, and its role in fostering regional maritime cooperation.

This operation serves as another example of the PMSA’s readiness to respond to maritime emergencies and its continuous efforts to ensure the safety of those at sea.
